Today we are taking a moment to reflect on the importance of International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day can be traced as far back as 1911 when it was first honoured officially by Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. The first IWD was attended by over a million women and men who united in campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, hold public office and end discrimination.
In 1975 IWD was celebrated for the first time by the United Nations but it would be another 21 years until the first annual theme was introduced in 1996 - "Celebrating the Past, Planning for the Future".
Over the years IWD has grown, and this year’s theme is “#BreakTheBias”. At Milners we are extremely proud of the strong women who make up our team and are committed to inclusivity in all that we do.
