A Chat With Charlotte
By Emma">Emma / 11 October 2019 / News

From goats to cats to alpacas and illustration to interior design to hunting for antiques.

Our next team blog puts Charlotte in the spotlight. There’s lots of different interests, activities and pastimes keeping Charlotte busy and out of mischief!

‘Muddy’ or ‘Biscuit Monster’, as Charlotte’s often known as amongst the Milners team, is our ‘Creative One’. Here in Milners, Muddy is given free rein to let her creative juices flow, from heading up Interior Design projects to making Milners of Leyburn look very attractive, Charlotte’s a dab hand at it all! A normal day in Milners will see Charlotte turn her hand to sanding, painting, creating a ‘WOW’ factor in the window or around the shop. There’s also been the recent William Morris exhibition at Tennants, the occasional mood board & fashioning together works of art made from carpet!

Charlotte’s creativity doesn’t stay within Milners. Charlotte’s passion, in and out of work is design and print. On Charlotte’s mission for inspiration, is both new and vintage. She keeps up to date with the design world, which comes in helpful back in the shop when helping customers realise their visions. With a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration from Liverpool John Moore’s, she utilises her illustrative & creative gift in spare time - drawing for pleasure and is kept busy with her own small design business. Any other spare time is filled with friends, family, antique fairs, walking, reading, podcasts, TV & films- Harry Potter & anything Sci-Fi and most importantly tending to her animals.

Charlotte's herd includes Una the cat, Abba, Fernando, Anniefred & Lumos- the goats. Charlotte also takes a week off work to help with lambing time on the family farm and on the odd occasions, helps Jackie out at ‘Alpaca Ambles’ at Semerwater. The goats, in particular, have proven themselves to be a handful with their habit of breaking into Granny’s garden to feast on the delights of the apples falling off the tree and Granny’s beautiful flowers…. much to Granny’s delight!

When Charlotte can persuade mum to goat and cat sit, she revels in the bliss of a travelling adventure, most recently America, Norway, Netherlands & Croatia. During these travels, she met Henny Penny- the hen that played the piano in Arizona and was “Shushed” by Katy Perry in New York. On the bucket list for travelling is Asia, South America & the National Parks in Canada. Also, to strike off the wish list is walking the Coast to Coast, volunteer in an Orangutan Sanctuary and to expand her animal smallholding.

Watch this space to see where Charlotte’s creativity will take us next, it’s not long until we will see what she has in store for the Christmas window…..
