By Emma">Emma / 16 April 2019 / News

We’re thrilled to announce we’re partnering up with The Garden Rooms at Tennants of Leyburn and Morris & Co, to inspire all with the legacy left by William Morris, his impact on the Arts and Crafts movement and what makes him still relevant today- more than 150 years later!

Visitors will be able to delve into the history of William Morris-a poet, activist and designer- in particular, for fabrics and wallpapers for which he is best remembered. His visionary & adaptable creations left a profound impact on the design industry and have stood the test of time, inspiring generations, trends & palates since.

The exhibition will draw together both historic and contemporary examples, through exploring the early beginnings of Morris & Co through to the present day. Visitors will have the chance to view a collection of original pieces from the Morris & Co. archive as well as gain an insight into the processes undertaken to create current designs. Alongside the historical exhibition at The Garden Rooms of Tennants, Milners of Leyburn are presenting a range of beautiful, bespoke furnishings, hand crafted locally by us and Morris & Co. A variety of curtains and blinds, cushions embellished with trims, wallpapers & upholstery will spark your imagination as to the possibilities of exquisite furnishings you could have in your own home, available for you to admire, inspect and play with, throughout the month-long event. Here at Milners our seamstress and upholsterer are busy creating ready for the big event!

The exhibition will run from 16th May-16th June 9am-5pm with free entry for all visitors. Throughout the month there will also be the opportunity to attend lectures and talks, information on these sessions can be found here.

We can’t wait for the exhibition to start and hope to see some of you there, so you too can enjoy diving into the history of the highly-esteemed designer, William Morris.
